san francisco trip

August 14, 2010

the hubs and i just returned from a trip to san francisco to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. i’m notoriously bad at taking personal pictures… i tend to want to just enjoy the experience rather than focus on capturing images of it. on this trip, my camera sat in the hotel room about half of the time, and i carried it the other half but only snapped the shutter a handful of times.

one of the highlights was lunch at tyler florence’s new restaurant, wayfare tavern. it’s new and pretty and out of the norm for us, so i did document this hour of our trip quite well. the food was delicious, we got special seats at the chef’s counter (overlooking the kitchen) and tyler was right there… finishing plates and talking with his staff.

the restaurant is in the financial district, around the corner from the transamerica tower:

i don’t claim to be a food photographer, but this food was so pretty that it was easy!

the view from our seats… it was really cool to watch the cooks in this tiny kitchen make everything with such care.

lake tahoe & todd wees

August 5, 2010

my family recently returned from a trip to lake tahoe… such a wonderful summer trip in the midst of our central-coast ultra-mild weather and daily morning fog.

we made sure we timed our trip in order to see our friend todd wees perform. todd recently released an album of kids’ music (i love his tagline… ‘music for kids, by a big kid!’) my two girls just love his songs. attending two of todd’s performances was an awesome addition to our weekend.

kite festival – squaw valley high camp

todd singing – round 2 for the day

my girls – avery and logan – and a whole bunch of yummy sun flare

you’ll recognize some of my photos on todd’s site… you can listen to his music from there too! check it out: http://www.toddwees.com

shoot your kids! {with your camera, of course}

August 4, 2010

You may or may not know that my first profession was teaching. I’ve spent a good part of the last 8 years in front of the classroom, and now I’m excited to combine teaching and photography in a workshop! I’m partnering with fellow Central Coast photographer Mary Kelting for this event. Check it out:

Capture life’s precious moments with tips from the pros! Professional family photos are treasured for a life time, but often it is those small, every day events that you want to remember forever. Think of your baby’s first steps, blowing out birthday candles, or a well-rehearsed dance routine. Whatever it is, Mary and Jasmine want to give you the know-how so you can make those photos shine.

The “Rock your Camera” workshop will be held at Cal Poly on Saturday September 18 from 9am to 12:30pm. The cost is just $150 per person. This will be a fun filled day dedicated to learning how to take better pictures of your children. We will teach you some great tips and techniques including your positioning, camera settings, and how to use available light to get incredible shots. There will also be a chance to practice with live kiddos and then we will evaluate what you learned! If you are someone armed with a great Digital SLR camera, and want to learn more about how to use it, this workshop is for you. You may also attend with point and shoot camera. A light breakfast will be provided as well as yummy cupcakes donated by the amazing Amy Bakes Cupcakes!!! We will also have some great take home tips and tricks. Prizes too!!!

This is a three hour workshop limited to only 20 participants. Bring your camera and your questions. If you are interested in this workshop, please make sure to email or call me to reserve your spot today! jasmine@jasminejohnsonphotography.com 805.776.3129

baby braelyn | central coast baby photography

August 1, 2010

i won’t lie. little miss braelyn just wanted to party. well, party like a one-week old can… by staying awake and making eye contact. despite being drunk on milk, she’d wake up after snoozing for about three minutes. but when she did sleep, she made the cutest, sweetest smiley faces. here are just a few from our session:

newborn twins! | nipomo baby photography

June 28, 2010

i was quite excited when i received an email (last night!) from stephanie telling me that her twin boys had arrived and they were ready for their first photo shoot. i arrived at their house this morning and spent a few hours with these sweet, gorgeous babies. i’m simply amazed with multiple babies (and especially the mamas who carry and deliver them.) these boys were so comfortable and content being squished and piled on top of each other and were just so fun and easy to photograph.

these boys are identical. so identical that their sleep-deprived new parents might have painted a someone’s toenail so they’d be able to keep the boys straight. (so, that’s vincent on the left and anthony on the right. i took notes.) :)

these are favorites of mine… at the end of our session, i had them sleeping face-to-face, their arms were tangled and they ended up holding hands (did i mention that i’m amazed with twins?) i love that these images feel so squished and womb-like.

braedan | brooklyn | brandon & erika | arroyo grande family photography

May 27, 2010

we might have been politely asked to leave a private road to get some of these pictures, but it was so worth it for this gorgeous family and amazing light!

braedan – was thrilled to interact with pictures as long as lightning mcqueen could be in them too :) mcqueen may have helped press the shutter on my camera in a few other pics…

and sweetie-pie brooklyn – a few hours after our session, i got a message from erika on facebook telling me that brooklyn was just devistated to realize i hadn’t followed them home. that’s just about all i can hope for in a session – i want to be brooklyn’s favorite new friend!

a few more of the family:

and quite possibly my favorite:
